
A professional comic will walk students through the process, starting with the basics of crafting a joke to learning how his/her unique comedy persona can best capture the attention of the industry. At the end of the course, students are given the opportunity to take the Stand Up NY stage in front of their friends, family, and peers. Mary Dimino, a familiar face on television, is a 2009 MAC Award Nominee for Outstanding Female Stand-Up comic. Mary is a winner of the 2008 Gracie Allen Award presented by American Women in Radio and Television. The Gracie honors exemplary contributions of individuals who have encouraged the realistic and faceted portrayal of women in entertainment, commercials and featured programming.
You may have seen her luminous smile on Comedy Central, VH-1, HBO’s Chris Rock, sketches on Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and in dozens of national commercials.
Mary plays Connie, the Maid of honor in Tony and Tina’s Wedding, Polly on New York Undercover and appears in various other television and film roles. Her stand-up was featured on Comedy Central’s SAST. She was the series studio warm-up act for The Graham Norton Effect on Comedy Central and currently and currently does stand-up for American Movie Classic Network.
Mary is a contributing writer for various shows, including the award-winning PBS documentary “Fat”, in which she also had a starring role. She is co-author with Dr. Brad Johnson of the new book “Scared Skinny: No More”.
